Brit milah or bris is the Jewish circumcision ceremony performed on eight-day-old male babies.
The foreskin is cut off from the end of the penis. The operation is carried out by a person called a mohel. The mohel is a ritual circumciser who has been trained and qualified for this task. In this photo we see a rabbi (left) and mohel (right).
The ceremony often involves close friends, family, and community. It may also involve a series of steps, practices, and roles.
This ceremony is important for many Jewish people as it is a symbol of the covenant (agreement) that G-d made with Abraham.
