Christianity

Salvation generally refers to the soul being saved from sin (bad actions, thoughts, and deeds) and from the consequences of sin.

Various Christian groups have different views about how salvation happens. However, all agree that the death of Jesus, followed by his resurrection is what makes salvation possible.

They also agree that individual humans must respond to God.

Many Christian writers say that salvation takes three forms:

  • Justification means that God has forgiven all our sins. This is based on Jesus having died in our place.
  • Sanctification means that we become people that live a good life.
  • Glorification means that when we die or Jesus returns to Earth we will be taken to heaven to live with him.
