In Christianity, the Old Testament is the name of the first part of the Bible. It was completed before Jesus Christ was born.

The Old Testament contains different texts, called “books”, about God and the people of Israel.

Christians group the books into four sections: the Pentateuch, the History of Israel, the Prophets, and Wisdom books. However, different Christian groups use different books with different names and orders for the Old Testament.

The Old Testament shares many of the same books with the Jewish Tanakh. However, they have different languages, punctuations, canon, organization, histories, and meanings.
