In the Abrahamic religions, Gabriel or Jibril is an angel. He has the power to announce God’s messages to humanity.
He is mentioned in the Qur’an, the Hebrew Bible, and the New Testament.
Islam regards Jibril as an angel sent by Allah to various prophets, including Muhammad. Jibril revealed Allah’s words to Muhammad in the form of the Qur’an.
In the Hebrew Bible, Gabriel appears to the prophet Daniel to explain his visions.
In the New Testament, Gabriel appears to Mary to tell her she will be the mother of the Christian Messiah.
This painting of Jibril is from the year 1717 CE. It was made in the Ottoman Empire, in a place that is now in the country of Turkey.
