In Christianity, Christ is a title for a person who will bring salvation to all people.

Christ comes from the Greek word Christos. Christos is a translation of the Hebrew word Mashiach.

Mashiach means “the anointed one”, or a person who will be chosen to rule. It is translated in English as “Messiah”. The Torah predicts that the Messiah will come to Earth and bring peace and prosperity to all.

Christian traditions believe that Jesus is the Messiah. Christians use Christ as both a name and a title for Jesus, referring to him as the Christ and as Jesus Christ.
