Mary or Maryam was the mother of Jesus (Isa).

According to the Christian Bible, the angel Gabriel told Mary that she would give birth to a son who would redeem humanity.

The Qur’an calls Maryam the chosen amongst women. She is highly regarded as a symbol of faith and devotion.

However, Christians and Muslims do not worship Mary. Some Catholics and Orthodox Christians pray to her. She is often especially important to Christian women. Roman Catholics often call her “the Blessed Virgin Mary” and the “Mother of God”.

This image shows Mary and Jesus from the painting Musa va ‘Uj (Moses and Uj).
