Rowan Williams was the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury. He served in that role from 2002 to his retirement in 2012. He was succeeded by the present Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

The archbishop of Canterbury is the senior bishop and a principal leader of the Church of England. He is also the ceremonial head of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
