Webinar XX: The role of religious literacy in understanding Christian culture

The role of religious literacy in understanding Christian culture

Thursday 16th June 2016 | 4:00pm–4:45pm (45 minutes)

Understanding differences within religions is a key element when teaching about religious diversity and enhancing your pupil’s religious literacy.

For instance, within the Christian faith tradition there are many Christian denominations and churches around the world: Catholic, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, Lutheran, and so on. This reflects a diverse faith movement made up of people from different cultures that share a religious identity. It also reflects how religions can allow for a multicultural understanding of the faith as people increasingly encounter a multitude of cultural mixes.

So, this webinar session aims to help teachers understand:

  • The different denominations in Christianity;
  • How culture plays a part in any philosophy or religion;
  • How to promote tolerance and respect among your pupils for all people;
  • How to develop religious literacy in children and young people’s lives;
  • Offer practical activities that teachers can use in the classroom
  • Presenters
